Biography
Summer 1997 Band is formed by Ben Davis, Dave Laney and Al Burian, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with a loose goal of doing as much as humanly possible. In this spirit, we practice three times, write three songs, record a seven inch, and plan a tour.
Fall 1997 Two east coast/mid-west tours. Experiments with video projections, tape loops, etc. Milemarker begins to solidify their reputation around home town as pretentious art fags. This reaches its apex at a performance where the band plays behind a solid black screen, in front of which a television monitor projects the word entertainment. two-thirds of the audience demand their money back.

Winter 1997 Release of first forays into electronic music and sampling (on various seven inches) allow pretentious art fag image to go national. Band writes and records much of the Non Plus Ultra LP on Mitchell Lane, a street famous for its bad vibes, while living in a squalid shack with Roby Newton and Seth Friedman, who provides the catering of bagels and rooster sauce.
June-July 1998 First US tour. Roby Newton joins the band to do a light show, utilizing a light-box of her own ingenious construction. Ben gets in the habit of dousing his drums in lighter fluid and setting them on fire. Tape loops of crazed evangelical preachers are played as background noise while the band wears shirts emblazoned with the names of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Unfortunately, this prompts more than one audience member to say they appreciate our Christian message. Overall synopsis of tour: entertainment value for audiences high, interpersonal sanity very low. At the end of the tour Roby quits/is fired (in a sort of inverse you cant fire me, I quit she insists that she has been fired while we insist that she has quit).

Aug 1998 Seth Friedman briefly on lights. Ben, Dave and Al move into a mansion and begin constructing the songs which will eventually become the next LP. The highly volatile and sketchy social conditions predominating amongst the residents of the mansion, along with practicing in the extremely cramped boiler room, conspire to produce a more highly volatile, claustrophobia-influenced sound.

October, November 1998 Second LP, Future Isms, is recorded in two recording sessions in Wilmington, NC.

Jan 1999 Matt Hall (of the Red Scare) plays drums for a short south-eastern tour.

Feb-March 1999 second US tour. Ben cant go; Sean Husick fills in on drums and Joe Devoe-Geiss does lights.

April-May 1999 First European tour. Ben Davis back on drums, Roby back on lights.

Oct 1999 Recording of Frigid Forms Sell LP in Washington, DC with Brian McTernan. Line-up at this point is 5-piece, with Sean Husick joining as the permanent drummer and Roby singing and playing keyboard.

Feb-March 2000 Third US Tour. line-up at this point is Sean- drums, Al-bass, Dave-guitar, Roby- keyboard. Lights and tape loops dropped in favor of straight-forward rock band approach. West coast tour with Yaphet Koto and Volume 11, mid-west and east coast with Kurt (Germany).

March-April 2000 second European tour, with new line-up.

July-Aug 2000 Fourth US Tour. East coast with Monochrome (Germany)

Aug 2000 Band relocates to Chicago, IL. Ben Davis stays in Chapel Hill to pursue his lucrative solo career. Line-up solidified as four-piece of Roby, Sean, Dave, Al.

Feb 2001 Midwest tour with Cave-In.

April 2001 Milemarker signs with Jade Tree.

May 2001 Anaesthetic, the first full-length for Jade Tree, is recorded, again with Brian McTernan in Washington DC.

June-July 2001 West coast tour and first tour of Japan. Sean decides to leave the band after returning from the Japanese tour.

September 2001 Anasthetic is released and the band, with new drummer Noah Leger, does an east coast tour and goes to Europe again.

October 2001 East Coast tour with the (International) Noise Conspiracy and the Hives. Tim Herzog on drums.

Jan-Feb 2002 US Tour #5. Tim on drums. Jade Tree re-releases Frigid Forms Sell, almost two years to the day after its original release on Lovitt.

March-June 2002 Recording with Steve Albini. Noah and Tim both play drums on the recording. Permanent line-up established as Al, Dave, Roby, Noah. Electronic recordings done, which, together with Albini recordings, constitute Satanic Versus EP.
