Biography
The Evil Queens have been compared at various times to Quicksand, Kiss, Fu Manchu and an arena rock- tinged Six Finger Satellite. Comparisons aside, more often than not, people have one thing to say about The Evil Queens, "They rock."
The Evil Queens consists of Mike Eckhardt, Eric Hinterscheid, George Hondroulis and Jacob Sundermeyer. They have been in bands together and separately for the last 10 years, and have finally reached the point of ultimate rock equilibrium. Balancing craftsmanship with hard work and a pure ethic of no-trend rock.
The Evil Queens are releasing their third record First It Boils, Then It Spills on July 26th of 2005 on upstart NYC indie Addison Records. Their first, self-titled CD, was recorded and mixed in 2 days during the summer of 2002 at Workbook Studio in Columbus, Ohio and the second, Dos, was put to tape in August, 2003 in an equally record-breaking 2-day span.
With their most recent recording, First It Boils, Then It Spills, the Evil Queens decided to take a different approach, and took a year to finish it. Again with Workbook's Jon Chinn in the mixing chair, the Queens have produced a cleaner, but still volatile rock recording. For those wondering, the CD takes its name from a Greek greeting oft-repeated between George Hondroulis and his father.
Recommended if you like: Hot Snakes, The New Bomb Turks, Drive Like Jehu, Quicksand, Turbonegro or Zeke.
"The Evil Queens do an excellent job of balancing heavy music with strong hooks. (First it Boils, Then it Spills) is intense enough for devil-horned rockers but catchy enough for fans of all sorts of loud music. This is a delicate balance for such burly music." - Karen E. Graves, The Other Paper
