FREMONT JOHN
BIO
“If you want a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” Albert Einstein
Fremont John reads a crowd and seems to morph into whatever is required. He and his band, Acoustic Thunder, performed for 2,000 people this past New Year’s Eve at the Wild-in-the-Winter gala event in Chattanooga, TN surprising everyone there when “They had them dancing from the first song!” Fremont John's seamless musical delivery captures audiences every time. With the sheer intensity of his emotion, it’s almost as if he bleeds, sweats and wrenches the songs from some deep inner place. “He sings like a man on a mission of purpose!" – Edgar Struble, M.D. American Music Awards. His melodic, hook-laden acoustic guitar leads carry that emotion as they soar like a wonderful and unusual acoustic blend of Santana and David Gilmour. His ability, sound quality and emotion cross the generation lines giving his fan-base a wide age demographic.
A powerfully strong songwriter, Fremont John shows immense respect for his audience by sculpting songs with intelligent lyrics, and resonant messages. His soulful melodies and poignant lyrics seep into your soul. A TAXI reviewer recently wrote, “songs…show a vast understanding of writing, arranging, and overall musical wisdom.”
A new CD is set for release in 2008. Richard Crooks, veteran NYC session ace (David Bromberg, Dr. John, Dylan), returns on drums and Ivan Bodley, recently featured in Bass Player Magazine, also of NYC, covers the bass on 9 of the 12 songs. John's regular bassist, Bubba Lownotes, plays the other 3 tunes. This collection of tunes includes 6 favorite cover tunes and 6 new original tunes. ""Timeline" blew people away", says John, "with its heart-rending honesty and the world-class quality and performance execution. Its focus was on the songwriting and on the lyrics. The new disk will be all that but with more focus on the guitar". A national radio campaign and tour are currently being planned to support the new release.
Fremont John is a classically trained pianist and trombonist schooled at Michigan State University. In the mid 70's, he was lead guitarist in the national touring band, InnerVision opening for acts like Rush, Iron Butterfly and Styx. He left music in ’76 to raise a family. An astute businessman, Fremont co-founded/co-owned ProAct Services Corp., an environmental contracting firm that cleans up after the oil and gas industry. Knowing he had to get music back into his life, he sold his share in ProAct and moved to Key West. It was Jan. '99 when he returned to his music career. In 2000 he was selected to emcee and open for the Key West Songwriter Festival, sharing the stage with some of Nashville's top songwriters including Mark Selby “Blue on Black” and Grammy winnerTia Sillers “I Hope You Dance”.
2002 saw him doing 15 shows a week in Key West! In 2004, he wowed NYC record producer Larry Baeder, resulting in the 2006 indie CD release, "Timeline". Two songs "No Pity On Me" and "Devil's Dune" were semi-finalists in the 2006 Dallas Songwriters Assn. songwriting contest. Neil Young even selected "Devil's Dune" for his web site. The song appears on several compilation CDs sent to our troops in the Mid-East. A national radio campaign for "Timeline" resulted in FM airplay in many cities while global airplay came via countless Internet stations.
Fremont John plays 200 to 300 gigs each year. In March of 2006 he reached the SonicBids.com #1 Top-booked artist spot out of over 100,000 member artists! He continues among the Top-50 most booked artists. During the 2005 and 2006 seasons he was featured at Tropicana Field in St. Pete, FL, as the pre-game entertainer for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays MLB team.
