Biography
NEW ORLEANS-BORN LESLIE CLEMMONS RELEASES POWERFUL NEW ALBUM
With all the pop clones and cookie cutter rock bands wandering the face of music today, it gets to feeling like every aspiring act thinks of money, not melodies, when taking the stage or releasing a “new” album. While some bands make the bottom dollar their top priorities, there are still a few emerging artists who are interested more in creating their own great music than producing an uninspired carbon copy of something that has already been found and dropped by radio. With this ever growing distinction between those that will last and those that will crash, Leslie Clemmons is a fantastic example of a songwriter with a real musical goal. Simply stated and beautifully crafted, her songs have a soothing flow that, along with her silky vocals and expressive lyrics, pull in any listener with its genuinely musical appeal. Now Leslie has released her first album, Stop the World, a perfectly balanced mix of all her talents and a tremendous credit to her abilities as a writer and performer. Her comprehensive blend of acoustic pop, coupled with influences from folk, country, and even modern R&B, slides her new release onto the music scene with the grace and fluidity of one of her own delicate ballads.
Leslie Clemmons’ distinct style is what makes her music so exceptional, with aspects borrowed from all genres to form her own particular approach, a soft-spoken yet clear-minded sort of pop that’s as easy to understand as it is to listen to. The title track of Stop the World is solidly understated, with a piano-led melody and hints of R&B in a nostalgic waltz, and certainly seems to be the perfect song to tie the album together. Following the melancholy atmosphere of Stop the World is Interpret the Sky, switching from a soft feel to a mix of light acoustic guitar and an upbeat country bounce that could get any listener tapping his foot and smiling. Leslie’s clear vocals and beautiful harmonies bring out the most in her writing, feeling slightly reminiscent of such performers as Paula Cole and Sarah McLachlan, and she seems to effortlessly glide into a similar sound, easily on the same artistic level as these respected singers. Leslie returns to her warm, longing style in I Love You More, a soft lover’s confession with sweet and simple vocals coupled with heartfelt lyrics and the kind of genuine emotion that can only come from a deeply inspired artist. Every song on the album, including Leslie’s recording of Carole King’s So Far Away, speaks to a real love of music and the talents of a great songwriter.
An accomplished international musical theatre performer, Leslie Clemmons has appeared in numerous productions such as West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and Les Miserables, and she prides herself on her dedication to good music and speaking her mind through her lyrics. Many of the songs featured on Stop the World have real social significance and give listeners more than just rhythmic poetry to accompany her lovely melodies. The New Orleans-born singer has always loved music, ranging from jazz to blues, classical to rock, and uses her incredible versatility to craft an album as diverse, yet coherent, as Stop the World, with styles that jump from the uplifting and upbeat Stephie’s Song to the inspiring rock grit of Walls of Jericho. Leslie’s new CD is a testament to her skill not only as a performer, but a writer, stringing a number of different styles and emotions together on one articulately balanced album.
Any fan of the soft styles of artists such as Jewel, Paula Cole, or even more mainstream pop sirens like Nelly Furtado will absolutely enjoy Leslie Clemmons’ new album, Stop the World. Her poignant brand of acoustic pop, R&B, and rock is almost a genre in itself, infused with her deep appreciation for music, and showcases her abilities as a musician, from the sultry and bass-heavy sounds of Duplicity to Teresa Street, a solo vocal track that boasts volumes for Leslie’s beautiful voice. With tracks like Interpret the Sky and Lie in Your Arms already receiving steady air play on many stations at www.live365.com, Stop the World is sure to establish Leslie as one of the best new artists around, and would certainly make the perfect addition to any music lover’s collection.
