Biography
In 2001, Rainer Maria released their third album, A Better Version of Me, and played almost 200 shows. Along the way, Rainer Maria guitarist Kyle Fischer and bassist Caithlen De Marrais found time to travel back to Madison, Wisconsin to begin work on Kyle's solo album which he had been writing outside of the Rainer Maria sessions. Joining them on drums were Mike Kinsella (American Football, Owen) and free improv pianist/cellist, Matt Turner on cello.
Over the course of the next six months, at Smart Studios with engineer Mark Haines, the album began to develop collaborational elements with De Marrais contributing her own vocal and compositional aspects. Most noticeable, however, was the development of the music. Harmonies between acoustic guitar and cello coalesced with bass, steel guitars, piano, organs, incidental percussion and Kinsella's impeccable, well-timed drumming all make Open Ground much more than just a solo record. Upon the album's release, Fischer, De Marrais, and Kinsella toured as a three-piece.

Despite a busy tour schedule, Kyle often finds time to play occasional shows. Currently, he is writing and recording songs for his next album, the tentatively-titled Black Milk.
