Biography
They come from a town best known as one of the least desirable places to reside in America a formerly industrious area downtrodden by corporate greed and its economic fallout. Flint, MI became the subject of Michael Moore’s debut documentary and a symbol of modern despair. But from despair comes the desire to do something, something different and powerful, to make things happen for oneself and make an impact in the face of overwhelming odds. Enter the six members of Chiodos.
Having come together early on as four of the band members attended the same High School the then named unnamed entity came into existence as the members involvement in the local music scene grew past attending shows and supporting local bands. The desire to create something fresh they could call their own led Craig and Brad to begin writing music together and before long the oddly named band called The Chiodos Bros came to be the main focus in all the members lives.
With a quick demo laid down in June 2002 The Best Way To Ruin Your Life built the band a healthy local following and a close friend to decide to start a label to release the bands first “Official” CD. In November 2002 the band locked themselves in Guitarist Pat McManaman’s bedroom where they self recorded, engineered, produced and mastered the CD that would be released by Search and Rescue Records. The Heartless Control Everything, though a raw affair the CD clearly displayed the talent, clever songwriting structure and most importantly the future potential the band possessed. Truthfully it seemed more like a band possessed as songs slid smoothly between elegant piano and electronic parts to guitar heavy dirges quickly followed by almost poppy melodic segues expertly driven by screaming and/or perfectly harmonized vocals. Drawing influences from Saves The Day, Queen, and At The Drive In, The Chiodos Bros formulated a sound that was intense and versatile as they created a cohesive chaos in each and every song. Shortly after the CD’s completion the band embarked on what would eventually become 7 full US tours resulting in thousands of CD’s sold and a multitude of enthusiastic fans and new friends.
Jump to 2004 and with a new simplified moniker, Chiodos receives and accepts an offer to join the Equal Vision Records family and a new chapter in the Chiodos history begins. Slated to begin recording in early 2005 the band is sure to create an album that will surprise, impress and undoubtedly confuse those looking for something easily categorized and defined.
