Biography
For most bands, finding a true identity and a dynamic voice takes more than a leap from one album to the next. Between touring, writing, and recording, all steps must be aligned to make a good band you acknowledge into a great one you won’t forget.
How suiting then for the band in the midst of their own evolution to create a link from the past to the future, a concrete way for listeners to witness the ways they’ve grown from their beginnings to a look into what will ensue in time; which is exactly why Mae bring you “Destination: B-Sides.”
“It’s been about one and a half years since ‘Destination: Beautiful,’ so we felt that it would be awesome to give our fans something new while they await our new album,” explains Mae keyboardist Rob Sweitzer of the project. “The b-sides album contains a mixture of new, unreleased, and remixed songs from ‘Destination: Beautiful.’ I hope people will see the development of our material from ‘Destination: Beautiful’ to where we are heading musically on our new record.”
And it’s no wonder, with an overwhelming amount of experience accrued since February 2003’s debut release, that improvement is inevitable. Since then Mae have been diligent on the road touring with bands like Sugarcult, Something Corporate, and the Starting Line. Summer 2004 took them to the Warped Tour while the fall has them opening for Simple Plan. In that time they’ve also produced two videos and been the featured band on MTV’s “Advanced Warning”. Needless to say, Mae have kept themselves busy.
“Being on the road is such a unique lifestyle, an experience that is full of amazing opportunities to learn and grow on so many levels,” Sweitzer elaborates. “From every city that we enter, to every late night diner that we sit in, to every show that we play, each event and person we encounter makes an impact on us individually and as a band. We have learned to embrace our strengths, weaknesses, and differences which has sharpened each of us spiritually, philosophically, intellectually, and artistically.”
All of this attention for the group has not steered the songwriting away from their focus of creating undeniably fresh rock songs. Equally delicate and driving, Mae’s classic style that made hits of songs like “Embers and Envelopes” and “Summertime” is even more prominent in new compositions like “Suspension.” With the help of Aaron Sprinkle, the song is the first attempt away from their customary independent production, and adds a spark to Mae’s already evident magic.
Set to record in November and December with producer Ken Andrews, Mae’s brand new album, “The Everglow,” is scheduled to release March 29, 2005. And with a sneak peak into their future from an already noteworthy past, there’s no doubt Mae’s fate will be nothing short of radiant.
