Biography
The band got started while Pete -age 22 (Bass) and Josh -age 22 (Guitar/Vocals) were at college in Pennsylvania. Pete and Josh wrote a few songs that semester acoustically. While at college they played acoustic shows around campus and started to generate a following. When the year was over Pete and Josh decided to take their music to the next level. Pete's twin brother, John (Drums) started playing drums earlier that year. Pete and Josh returned home from college around June 2003 and decided to start the band with John as the drummer. Josh, originally from Tennessee, packed his things and moved to Richmond to live with Pete and John. Now, with the band formed, it was time to find an appropriate name. Based on the beliefs and convictions of all three members, the idea of soul liberty (the belief) was, and still is, influential in the lives of the band. Therefore "Soul Liberty" is the name of the band but much more than that "Soul Liberty" holds great meaning and importance to Pete, Josh, and John on a personal level. With the band's name decided, they started writing songs and playing shows. Even with the good response they received with these songs they still were not satisfied. The band took some time off to evaluate the direction of their music. In that time they wrote new, more powerful songs that reflected the band's passion and drive for success. With these songs in place began playing shows all around the southeast. In April 2005 Soul Liberty acquired a second guitarist named Chris. Chris is 23 years old and has been playing guitar for 12 years. With the addition of a second guitarist, the band is now seeing bigger and better things in Soul Liberty's future.
