Biography
While most bands sit and wait for success to hopefully find them, Oklahoma City based rock band, Hinder, is using a different approach and taking matters into their own hands. Since the independent release of their first LP, which received air-play on several college and commercial radio stations across the country, the band has set bigger goals for themselves.
In May of 2004, Hinder packed their bags and headed to Mountainview studios in Vancouver, BC, to spend the summer recording their second album with Grammy nominated producer Joey Moi (Nickelback, Default, Theory of a Deadman, Closure, and Spiderman Soundtrack), and Brian Howes (Closure, DDT). The outcome is a variety of new songs with crunching guitars, memorable melodies, dynamic lyrics, and an original sound that cannot be compared to any other band heard on the radio today.
So, who is Hinder?
In August of 2001, while in college, Joe Garvey and Cody Hanson hired a local cover band to play at one of their parties. They later approached the front-man of the band, Austin Winkler, to compliment him on his unique sound. After being re-introduced by mutual friends several months later, they decided to get together. The three immediately began writing, rehearsing, and playing shows. Over the next two years the band gained recognition by playing headlining shows to sold out venues, obtaining radio play, and opening for several major acts.
Upon their return from Canada, the band felt they needed to complete their sound. They scoured the area looking for a new bass and rhythm guitar player who could fill the duties of executing the bands new and developed sound. Several tryouts led to finding the bands newest members, Mark King and Mike Rodden.
"We know that successes and failures don't just happen," says drummer Cody Hanson, "We know we have to decide our own fate, so we go out and make things happen."
The band's debut album is called Extreme Behavior, and for good reason.
"Yeah, we like to do some pretty wild and nasty stuff," says singer Austin Winkler, "everyone has a price and ours is pretty low."
The band does not take themselves too seriously, they like the old school mentality of playing rock 'n' roll and enjoying themselves in everyway possible.
